1930 Paul Proehl Travel Poster Helping Golf Tourism Recover on Coast
|
| Biloxi, Mississippi : Travel poster artist Paul Proehl studied architecture at the University of Illinois and then, around 1910, moved on to work as a draftsman and a designer for many buildings in Chicago. Meanwhile, he attended Chicago art schools and then became a prolific advertising artist, creating many advertisement posters for Chicago businesses. |

A 1933 Mini Poster by Proehl is the center of a NEW Advertising campaign for the Mississippi Gulf Coasts’ hurricane recovery of golf tourism and will be displayed at this weekends golf show at the Stephens Center in Rosemont. The Famous travel poster artist immortalized golf on the Mississippi Gulf Coast with his illustrations of a 1930’s women golfer. He commented on having trouble when first creating this poster because the region had so many great things to advertise. Then, in the artist's own words, "the poster began to arrange itself. |

Then, in the artist's own words, "the poster began to arrange itself. A figure in motion, clothes blown by sea breezes, set against a Gulf Coast scene bathed in sunlight, with the essential information arranged in small blocks, words grouped for quick, almost unconscious reading, and used somewhat as a border." This piece was used in the winter by Illinois Central Railroad, which connected Chicago with Mississippi ’s Gulf Coast, to draw people to the south by way of their railroad. Come by the Chicago Golf Show at Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont March 16th through 18th – booth #507 and see the full series of posters featured in the 2007 Official Golf Guide of the Gulf Coast.
